Description: Glucocorticoid tablets for dogs and cats. Composition: Prednisolone base: 20 mg Excipients authorized. c.s. 

 

Action: Anti-inflammatory medication. Non-fluoride synthetic glucocorticoid with a glucocorticoid power 4 times greater than cortisol, but almost no mineralocorticoid effect. Its duration of action is intermediate 12 to 36 hours. Indications: Inflammation and Allergy (pruritus) where indicated the use of glucocorticoids. Autoimmune diseases. As an adjunct to antineoplastic therapy. Replacement therapy. 

 

Contraindications and Warnings - Contraindications: Infectious diseases bacterial, viral and fungal infections - Demodeccia - Gastrointestinal Ulcers - Ulcerative Colitis - Pancreatitis - Kidney Failure - Amyloidosis - Diabetes mellitus - Osteoporosis - Chronic erosive arthritis - Pregnancy - Glaucoma.

 

Precautions: pyoderma with intense itching appropriate antibiotic use with prednisone given that the administration should be discontinued prednisolone before the antibiotic to prevent recurrence. 

 

Dosage: Dogs and Cats: Replacement therapy: 0.25 mg / kg / day.

Autoimmune diseases and as an adjuvant anticancer therapy: 2 to 4 mg / kg / day. In inflammatory processes: 0.5 to 1 mg / kg / day. For a prolonged therapy should be performed on alternate days. This scheme prevents the suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal allowing recovered in the days not given prednisolone. Therapeutic regimen: 1) induction dose: 0.5 to 1 mg/kg/12 hours for 5 to 7 days. 2) Continue with 1 to 2 mg / kg one for every 48 hours for 7 days. 3) The next week to continue the same regimen of administration (every 48 hours) and 50% lower dose. 4) Reduce the amount of prednisolone weekly (administered on alternate days) to reach the minimum maintenance dose with therapeutic effect. 5) Do not stop suddenly in administration, but gradually. It is suggested that the administration of prednisolone with complete respect for the circadian cycle of each species: Dogs: day / Cats: night.

 

Side effects: Polyuria. Polydipsia. Polyphagia. Euphoria. The long-term therapy at high doses indiscriminately resulting in Cushing's Syndrome (hyperadrenocorticism iatrogenic) together with secondary adrenal insufficiency. Sudden discontinuation of glucocorticoids may cause the syndrome of Addison (hypoadrenocorticism) by hypofunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal. 

 

Presentation: Blister of 10 tablets in boxes of 10 tablets (1 blister), 100 tablets (10 blister), 500 tablets (50 blister) and 1000 tablets (100 blister) tablets.
